May and a half...

Well, it has been quite a while since I have updated. May and 1/2 of June just seemed to fly by. In May Brendan learned to roll from his back to his belly, but has since forgotten how to go from belly to back. So now instead of always being stuck on his back he is always stuck on his belly. He has gotten so mobile though. Given enough time and desire he can get pretty much anywhere he wants. It is lots of fun, but also very scary. I say this over and over, but he is getting so big, so fast.

On the 12th of May we all went to a Bees baseball game with Tim and Jane. Sam caught a foul ball and the visiting team bullpen passed another foul ball to Brendan. He spent most of the game trying to chew the dirt off them. We had lots of fun AND they won they game.

For Mother's Day we had dinner with Sam's family. Sam also made me breakfast in bed on the Saturday before Mother's Day. He got me a pair of really cute sandals.

The next Saturday we had a Mother's Day dinner with my family. My family gave me a really cute digital frame for all our Brendan pictures.

For Sam and my anniversary my parent's watched Brendan and Sam and I went out to dinner at Lorenas (a Mexican place we love). Then we went bowling and to get ice cream. It was a very fun night. Our gift to each other was a brand new mattress that we purchased a few months before our anniversary! It is awesome!!! My parents surprised us on our anniversary with a brand new camcorder. It also takes pictures. And it is RED! It was such a big surprise and has been so fun to use. We also came back to pick up Brendan and found that his third tooth had popped out! It is so funny though because it's a top tooth, but it isn't a center tooth. It is one of the teeth on the outside of the center teeth. He has quite the crooked smile and there seems to be no teeth in sight soon. He hasn't been drooling or chewing on everything in sight so we don't have any idea when his smile with balance itself out.

Saturday the 23rd of May Sam took 2 big IRS tests. He has been applying to both the IRS and the FBI. He was in testing for 3 hours that Saturday and took an accounting test as well as the Treasury Enforcement Agent Test (TEA). A few weeks later Sam got the results and he did great! On the accounting test he had to get a 10 to pass and he received a 20. On the TEA he had to get a 26 to pass and he got a 41! We are so proud of him and can't wait to find out what is next. He should be hearing about an interview soon.

Memorial Day Weekend we went to the cemetery with my family on Sunday. And then had a BBQ.









That day Brendan sat on Grandpa Williams lap and we took a picture. Grandpa was so excited he had my grandma go get it framed so he could put right near the chair he always sits in and could see it all day long. He loves Brendan so much. Technically Grandpa isn't blood, but he proves every time we see him that blood relation doesn't mean a thing when it comes to family. He loves as much or more as and great-grandpa has every loved their great-grandchild.


Memorial Day we spent in Mount Pleasant having a picnic with Steve and Kami and the rest of Sam's family. We played on the playground and visited with the cows. Brendan got to do a lot of off-roading in his stroller.

The next day Brendan and I got to babysit Lindsay. Lindsay is 5 weeks older than Brendan. I thought Brendan was getting really mobile until I saw Lindsay. She is moving around so well! She spent most of the time we were there trying to stand up. She loves to talk, and talk loud. It was really funny when she would get jabbering because it would scare Brendan and he would start to cry, which would make her stop yelling, then he would immediately forget he was crying and go back to playing.

That evening we went and meet Gabriel. He is Staven and Ashlee's new baby boy. He is so tiny. He was basically the same weight and height as Brendan as he was born, but we were looking at pictures of Brendan at that same age and Gabe is so tiny compared to him. My big boy makes even big babies look tiny. Gabe was so adorable. We are so happy for Staven and Ashlee.

On the 27th Brendan and I went to the Brito girl's piano recital. They both did so well! Half of the audience was their family. Grandpa Maxfield also played a song. Then Grandpa and a friend of his sang while Grandpa played. It was so fun to be able to see that. Brendan was a little fussy during the recital and spent the majority of the time chewing on a program. Later that night Brittany and Russell announced they were pregnant with their 3rd child! We are so excited of them and can't wait for Brendan to have another cousin his age!

On the 29th of May Sam and Uncle Robbie took Brendan to another Bees game. Sadly the team lost, but they still had lots of fun and there was fireworks after. Brendan was tired by the time the fireworks started so he was startled by the noise. They watch the fireworks from the concourse so Brendan wouldn't be so scared.

May 30th Brendan got to play in a pool for the first time. My mom has a kid wadding pool that she bought specifically for Brendan. So we got him all dressed up in his swimsuit and he spent the evening splashing. He wasn't so sure if he liked it or not, but he wasn't grumpy so that's a good sign. :)

On June 5th my brother Tyler graduated from high school! I was able to attend the graduation and it was so exciting to see! He is so glad to finally be done. He is planning to move out on his own soon.



































After Tyler's graduation my sister-in-law Kayli spent the night and then my other sister-in-law Michelle came over the next day and we all went to the pool. We spent awhile splashing around and spraying each other. Brendan spent most of his time playing bumper boats aka running into people in his car/boat/tub floatie. We got a few smiles this time in the pool, so I think he is starting to realize that the pool is fun.

On June 2nd Kayli, Michelle and Jessica had a big dance recital at an outdoor amphitheater. Sadly after a hour or so of the show the rain started POURING so it was cancelled and rescheduled to the next week... It was POURING as we arrived at the second try, but eventually let up. It sprinkled the whole recital, but it was still lots of fun. Michelle, Kayli and Jessica are so talented. We are so proud of them!

Sam's birthday was on the 10th of June. That morning I made him breakfast in bed, then Brendan and I gave him his birthday present. We got him a ton of golfing gift certificates so he can spend the whole summer golfing all over Salt Lake. Sam's dad took Sam, Brendan and I out to lunch for Sam's birthday and then that night Sam's family sopped by to shower him in gifts. He got a pair of pants, pair of shorts, a polo shirt and an outdoor table cloth for our camping trips. After they left we had a big steak dinner, then Sam had to hurry off to a high council meeting.

The Saturday after his birthday was my dad's birthday. My family is going to be out of town on Father's day so we celebrated Sam and my dad's birthdays and Father's Day on Saturday. Sam got a stand up propane grill from my parents and all new grilling tools from my grandma. Brendan and I also got him a Zelda t-shirt and a funny "Dad manual". We still have a Father's Day present for him, but he will have to wait for that. We got my dad the same golf gift certificates that Sam got for his b-day, plus a screen tent for when they go camping. All in all in was a good birthday/Father's Day party.

The Sunday after Sam's birthday we had dinner with Sam's family and then the Murtha's came over to the Brito's for cake and ice cream. All in all I think he had a pretty good birthday week.

June 13th was also the 1 year anniversary of Brendan's first ultrasound. Look how much he has grown in just 1 year!

It has been a pretty fun month and a half. Brendan keeps getting to be more and more fun. He has a laugh that fills him all the way from his toes. He is pretty selective about who he shows the laugh to, but it is quite a treat if you get one. He finds such joy in life. But he also takes things very seriously and is always trying to figure the world out. We are so grateful to have such an amazing little boy...and sadly that is what he is becoming more and more...a little boy instead of a baby boy. We miss our baby, but love our little boy more than we ever thought possible.

Half Birthday

Monday was Brendan's half birthday. We spent the day visiting dad at work and going to lunch with him, then going to Brendan's 6-month doctor's appointment.

His appointment went well. The docotor said everything looked perfect and that we were taking care of him well. Brendan weighed 19 pounds 7 ounces (82nd percentile) and measured 27 inches (72nd percentile). The doctor said not to worry about him dropping in the percentiles. Most babies move closer to average (50%) around 6 months. He is still much bigger that average since average is 17lbs 7oz 26.4 inches.

The doctor did have some concerns about Brendan's hips though. He laid Brendan on his back, pushed his feet up so his knees were bent against his chest and then spread his knees apart. His left leg would spread wider than his right leg. This could indicate that the hip joint is formed improperly (see picture and article for more infomation). Because of this the doctor sent us to get some xrays done. He said there was probably not a problem, but he wanted to check since it is much easier to correct at an early age. Luckily everything came back normal. The hips are formed correctly. He says his left leg is just more flexible than the right which is no big deal. Whew! We were happy to hear that!

We are so glad that he is growing up so healthy and stong. Soon we will be starting solids for lunch. That will mean he will be eating 3 meals (of solids) a day. He's growing so fast. I know I say that all the time, but I just can't believe how quickly the time flies.

Sam's new calling and Brendan's teeth and tricks

Sam very recently got called to the high council. He is very nervous and overwhelmed about it, but also very excited. I am so proud of him and call myself lucky for having found such an amazing man to be my husband.

Brendan is so blessed to have a daddy that will be such a great example for him. He will do such a great job and will learn so much!

Brendan's second tooth has come in. It is the other bottom tooth. They are both sticking out quite a ways now. I can't believe how quickly they have grown.

Monday is his 6 month doctor's appointment. On one hand I am excited to see how he is "measuring up" on the other I am having a hard time believing he is 6 months old already.

Brendan has been scooting around all the time. He thinks it is the funniest thing to have us tell him to "scoot scoot." He will get a huge grin on his face, start to giggle and arch his back. Then he will either scoot around or he will roll back and forth. It is to the point that I think any day now he will roll from his back to his belly. Here is some cute footage of him scooting on our new mattress (!!!) last Saturday.

April in a nutshell

It has been a big month. Brendan has had his first cold and at the same time got his first tooth!

Both him and I have had a head cold for the last week. Luckily it hasn't been too hard on him. He is still the same smiling happy baby, just a little more tired than normal. He had a few tough nights, but other than a running nose he seems too be over it.

Yesterday his first tooth showed it's little head. It's the bottom right center tooth. You can't see anything more than a little slit in the gum, but you can feel the little point of the tooth.

On the 7th of this month Sam and I took Brendan to feed the ducks and play at the playground. We had a lot of fun in the new spring weather.

For Easter this year we were with family all weekend. Friday night we spent at the Grandma and Grandpa Brito's for the big Maxfield party. We had dinner and then went Easter egg hunting very quickly before the rain came.

Saturday we spent the afternoon at Great-Grandma (Farmor) William's house. We had dinner and searched for eggs and enjoyed spending time with the family.

Sunday after church we went to Great-Grandma (Abuela) Brito's house. Where (again) we had dinner and searched for Easter eggs. It was nice to finally have some sunshine at the party.

Brendan has been eating baby food so well. He eats breakfast and dinner and eats a ton at each meal. So far he is eating cereal, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, bananas, and pears. And soon we will start squash. As you can see in the pictures he didn't like potatoes too much to start with, but since has grown to ...well tolerate them. He is growing up so quickly. We can't believe he will be celebrating his half birthday in a week and a half.

Brendan's newest trick is arching his back and scooting across the floor or bed or anywhere he happens to be. It's made it so we have to be very aware of where we put him.

It's been a fun month and we can't wait for all the months to come!

Opening day and recent pictures

Today is the baseball season's opening day. According to Sam it is a national holiday. He tried to get Brendan in the spirit, but Brendan wasn't too happy about it.

Brendan has discovered his toes. He will use one arm to grab his thigh and pull his leg toward him and use the other hand to try to grab his toes. He isn't quite flexible enough though so he never can get a hold of them.

This past Tuesday Brendan and I babysat Lindsey. Lindsey wanted to play with Brendan, but when she would touch him he would scream. So they played near each other, not with each other.

He didn't mind them touching toes though.

Brendan is sitting so well on his own now. He still tips over when he reaches too far for a toy, or when his back gets tired after sitting for awhile, otherwise he sits great!

Brendan loves playing in our bed in the morning. He plays peek-a-boo with us in the sheets.
